چکیده

ALOS PALSAR data is used to analyse the flood dynamics of two semi-arid river systems and to characterise and define wetland typologies that result from infrequent and highly variable river flood regimes. The two sites, the Gwydir and the Paroo rivers, are both located within the Murray Darling Basin of eastern Australia. The methods developed have the potential to provide cost effective monitoring of wetland condition in inland Australia, and to also supply useful baseline data on flood pulse and vegetation response for the management of internationally significant Ramsar wetlands.

Land surface phenological response to decadal climate variability across Australia using satellite remote sensing

Land surface phenological cycles of vegetation greening and browning are influenced by variability in climatic forcing. Quantitative spatial information on phenological cycles and their variability is important for agricultural applications, wildfire fuel accumulation, land management, land surface modeling, and climate change studies. Most phenology studies have focused on temperature-driven N...

A Post Keynesian Environmental Macroeconomic Model for Agricultural Water Sustainability under Climate Change in the Murray-Darling Basin, Australia

Climate change has profound consequences for the agriculture of south-eastern Australia and its climate-induced water shortage in the Murray-Darling Basin. Post Keynesian Economics (PKE) macro-dynamics, along with Kaleckian investment and growth theory, are used to develop an ecological-economic system dynamics model of this complex nonlinear river basin system. The MurrayDarling Basin Simulati...

The atmospheric water balance over the Murray-Darling Basin, based on numerical weather prediction output

The hydroclimate of the Murray-Darling Basin in southeast Australia has been investigated by estimating the Basin’s atmospheric water balance, based on numerical weather prediction (NWP) output. The water balance has been calculated for the period from 2000 to 2004, using archived output from the Australian Bureau of Meteorology’s mesoscale model, the Limited Area Prediction System (LAPS). The ...
